Should I buy an Xbox 360, or spend my money on a PS3?

If money is no object, buy both!

Money is of no object, though my mother might be. I'm not going to buy both because mum only lets me play for a couple of hours each night, so it's a bit of a waste getting both. Which one would you buy, if you could only buy ONE?

In that case, tough call. Honestly, I don't have either -- most of my gaming is PC based. (The last time I upgraded a game console was when I traded in my Atari 2600 for a Commodore 64.)
I too would only play for a couple of hours each night (a self-imposed limit rather than parental -- too many other things that require my attention).
Given the limited time for playing, for me it would come down to a very small handful of specific game titles I really really wanted to play, then I would pick the system for which they were first written. (Ports to other platforms can sometimes be disappointing.)
Neither system is likely to disappear, being backed by large companies both with a history and commitment to console gaming and plenty of cash to back it up. Performance-wise there's not a lot of difference between the two, at least not that I can tell.
So pick your top three games, or top five, whatever -- your "desert island" list, and that should tell you which hardware to get.
(For me, I would probably lean more towards the PS3, based only on the game titles available.)

May I suggest the Nintendo Wii. Half the proce of a PS3, but just as fun. I am not a video game person, however, the Wii is addicting. It also forces you to (Somewhat) exercise.

Go to Wikipedia and type in:
History of video game consoles (seventh generation).
It lets you compare the consoles themselves, future games, processing power, and bonus accessories. etc.
Still, its a hard pick.
